LAW 11:

LEARN TO KEEP PEOPLE DEPENDENT ON YOU

To maintain your independence you must always be needed and wanted. The more you are relied on, the more freedom you have. Make people depend on you for their happiness and prosperity and you have nothing to fear. Never teach them enough so that they can do without you.

This is as quoted by Robert Greene.

What is your honest take on this?

Welcome to Life Issues 4 me.

This blog is created primarily to sample opinions on issues affecting all of us in one way or another. My aim is to touch lives positively. You may know me as a person. Notwithstanding, I will want you to consider these principles objectively while it lasts. I do not know who out there may learn from these laws.

For me, I learnt a lot.

For the next few months, I will be deliberating on the LAWS OF POWER as it relates to your relationship in the family, work place, religion and living generally.

Do you think some of the laws stated by Robert Greene in his book THE 48 LAWS OF POWER applies to Africans or can we say these laws are universally applicable?
What is your take? Can you think up an answer to these questions? I will be glad to read your opinion.

For the next 48 weeks on this blog, I will be featuring one law each week. So, do not miss out on what you might learn.                   `

LAW ONE: NEVER OUTSHINE THE MASTER

In his own words, Robert Greene said ‘’Always make those above you feel comfortably superior. In your desire to please them or impress them, do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite-inspire fear and insecurity. Make your master appear more brilliant than they are and you will attain the heights of power.’’

So, pals, that’s it. What do you think?

For me, when I read this law, there were consequences both ways, that is, if you observe the law or you transgress it.

In all honesty, tell me how you see it and why.

Your opinion counts please.

Are you eager to know about law number two to ten? Then do not miss next week edition.

Here we are again. If you are new to my blog, I will suggest you begin with us from the very start. Have you considered rule number one? What is your response to that law? Is it applicable and workable in human relationship?

While you are racking your brains on that, why don’t you join me as we consider laws number two to ten to see how this issue affects those who care to know!

LAW 2: NEVER PUT TOO MUCH TRUST IN FRIENDS, LEARN HOW TO USE ENEMIES.
In this law, Robert Greene said ‘Be wary of friends-they will betray you more quickly, for they are easily aroused to envy. They also become spoiled and tyrannical. But hire a former enemy and he will be more loyal than a friend, because he has more to prove. In fact, you have more to fear from friends than from enemies. If you have no enemies, find a way to make them.’

My question here to you is this: How on earth can one make enemies if he/she doesn’t know how to do that, as suggested by this guy?

LAW 3: CONCEAL YOUR INTENTIONS.
Here, Greene said, ‘Keep people off-balance and in the dark by never revealing the purpose behind your actions. If they have no clue what you are up to, they cannot prepare a defense. Guide them far enough down the wrong path, envelop them in enough smoke, and by the time they realize your intentions, it will be too late.’

Wahoo! Seriously guys, do you not think that this guy, Robert Greene, is wicked? Should anyone in your opinion apply this law?

I will be expecting your responses anyway. Let’s move to the next law.

LAW 4: ALWAYS SAY LESS THAN NECESSARY
I admired this law when I read it. Yes, I do apply it. Robert Greene said: ‘When you are trying to impress people with words, the more you say, the more common you appear, and the less in control. Even when you are saying something banal, it will seem original if you make it vague, open-ended, and sphinx like. Powerful people impress and intimidate by saying less. The more you say, the more likely you are to say something foolish.’’

For me, this law is powerful and it is the fact. Most Holy books I’ve read even supports this simple fact of life-yes life issues. Want to know rule number 5? Just scroll down.

LAW 5: SO MUCH DEPENDS ON REPUTATION---GUARD IT WITH YOUR LIFE
Before I will state this law, may I ask you what reputation is? Yes, to you, how would you define reputation?

I will be waiting at my own end to read your definition or reputation. But see what Robert Greene said about this law.

‘Reputation is the cornerstone of power. Through reputation alone you can intimidate and win; once it slips however, you are vulnerable and you will be attacked on all sides. Make your reputation unassailable. Always be alert to potential attacks and thwart them before they happen. Meanwhile, learn to destroy your enemies by opening holes in their own reputations. Then stand aside and let public opinion hang them.’

Boy!   That’s serious.    Like Greene admitted in his book, he said that in observing this law, you have to be careful so that it does not boomerang at you. But do you know that most colleagues in your office are using this law against you right now?

I leave you to do the thinking while we move to the next law.

LAW 6: COURT ATTENTION AT ALL COST
‘Everything is judged by its appearance; what is unseen counts for nothing. Never let yourself get lost in the crowd, then, or buried in oblivion. Stand out. Be conspicuous, at all cost. Make yourself a magnet of attention by appearing larger, more colorful, and more mysterious than the bland and timid masses.’

That is how Robert Greene puts the 6th law of power.

Don’t you think this law is more of a pretense than reality? At least that is how I see it. However, since every man is entitled to his own opinion, what do you think?

I will be waiting for your comment.

Before we consider the next rule, let me state here that these issues here discussed on my blog can be coming to you freely if you will only subscribe to this blog. You will receive the regular updates without you coming here endlessly. It all depends on you anyway.

If I were you (but am not you), I guess I would have chosen that option. You can also follow me at facebook.com/agejivwiebenaiah  or twit with me at twitter@aiah4me. You may also reach me on 08054159168.

Ok, let’s move on.

LAW 7: GET OTHERS TO DO THE WORK FOR YOU, BUT ALWAYS TAKE THE CREDIT
In this law, Robert said,
Use the wisdom, knowledge and legwork of other people to further your own cause. Not only will such assistance save you valuable time and energy, it will give you a godlike aura of efficiency and speed. In the end your helpers will be forgotten and you will be remembered. Never do yourself what others can do for you.’

Please, guys, can you read that last sentence again---never do yourself what others can do for you.

When I applied it on both subordinates and superiors, with them not knowing what I was doing, it worked like magic.
Be honest though while applying this rule. If it boomerangs, you are on your own. Do not say I didn’t warn you.

Are you ready for law number 8? Then the law it is.

LAW 8: MAKE OTHER PEOPLE COME TO YOU
This law is quite short. Greene said,
‘When you force the other person to act, you are the one in control. It is always better to make your opponent come to you, abandoning his own plans in the process. Lure him with fabulous gains—then attack. You hold the cards.’

Don’t you think this is wicked as a child of God? I think this is the subtle tactics most guys use on frail girls, to lure them into what I don’t know. Do you know?(laughs).

Na wao!

Well, checkout the next rule.

LAW 9: WIN THROUGH YOUR ACTIONS, NEVER THROUGH ARGUMENTS
Mr. Robert Greene said that,
‘Any momentary triumph you think you have gained through argument is really a Pyrrhic victory. The resentment and ill will you stir up is stronger and lasts longer than any momentary change of opinion. It is much more powerful to get others to agree with you through your actions, without saying a word. Demonstrate, do not explicate’

I leave the high-sounding words for you to fathom their meanings. Notwithstanding, I think this law says it all. Even in a husband/wife relationship, this law is fundamentally true.

Do you have a contrary view? Why, if I may ask? Let me see your reason please.

Wahoo! We’ve come this far. If you have followed me all the way from law number one, I want to believe you have taken some points you may want to use for personal reasons.

Well, let’s round off for now with the 10th law of power according to Robert Greene.

LAW 10: INFECTION: AVOID THE UNHAPPY AND UNLUCKY

The law states that, ‘You can die from someone else’s misery---emotional states are as infectious as diseases. You may feel you are helping a drowning man but you only precipitating your own disaster. The unfortunate sometimes draw misfortune on themselves; they will also draw it on you. Associate with the happy and fortunate instead.’

Oops! That’s it for now. Did you enjoy the dose of these powerful laws while it lasted?
